March 10, 2008This refers to the Lemke article about the connection between genre, rhetoric, register and codes. When teachers are writing reports on the teacher candidate practicum experiences, how the language used in the reports and evaluations carry codes of meaning not explicit in the text: for example, “It has been my great pleasure…” would indicate an exemplary practicum performance, “I have enjoyed…” would indicate a less than exemplary practicum performance.

Today I attempted to figure out, once again, the relationship between my studio practice and my scholarship at the university. I’m only in my studio on the weekends now, as my days at the university are long and taking all my creative energy.
