its own method for processing. This is not a one size fits all approach, it’s more of a many sizes fit all – being able to have some fields that comprehensively link throughout the text resources – such as keywords. I’m hoping this database will replace the Zotero library and the email library. Okay. I can get started on this. Really, I always seem to need to start any new effort with some form of developmental housekeeping. It makes the task more approachable.
The final push on this one pager…
May 13, 2008needs to be done NOW. No more time for distractions. What I am going to do does not make a lot of sense to me, other than the strong sense of compulsion that goes with it. How do we explain obsession and compulsion in terms of cognition, consciousness and cognitive science? It always feels like an inspired edge, even if it can turn out to be either self productive or self destructive. What I have is another map of a New York intersection with traffic and pedestrians going in different directions. This is a metaphor for both the way I am perceiving Edelman is talking about population theory in brain function, and the sense of dislocation I experienced when my brother was driving us out of Manhattan, the experience of driving in Manhattan traffic. I am making a connection between the dislocation of being in Manhattan with the dislocation teachers feel in relation to ICT and their teaching practice. Let’s face it, there is no workshop that was going to prepare me to drive in Manhattan!

I have been accepted…
May 10, 2008to present at another small conference. This one is coming up in June:
On behalf of the e-Strategy Town Hall 2008 Planning Committee, I’m pleased to inform you that the proposal you submitted for an Interactive Seminar at Town Hall 2008 has been accepted.
General registration will begin later today, so we want to make sure the description of your presentation (which will listed on the Registration form and printed in the Program) is accurate and concise:
This presentation explores the use of articulation as a theory and a methodology to discuss the implications of bringing cultural perspectives of ICT into educational contexts. Recent examples from the news media show the growing tension between the significance of ICT in society, and perceptions of ICT within educational institutions. Articulation provides a method for presenting a complex, evolving discourse as a lived reality within a blog environment. Theories about communication, power and politics, and literacy are presented as a place to begin the difficult conversations that are needed to enable educators to engage with ICT within their educational practices. The construction of ICT ‘experts’ in education has created unsustainable dependencies within teaching communities. It has also limited discourse about the meanings, associations, and ideologies connected to perceptions of ICT in educational practice. I hope that this paper, and the associated blog http://educationictculture.wordpress.com/ will support critical discourse in educational contexts to support educators and their students in their engagement with ICT.

This is cool
May 2, 2008I have a computer lab for part of my presentation tomorrow. That is so great. So, the first part of the session will be up in the classroom, the second part will be down in the computer lab. I’m working up a lesson, that allows me to teach some of what I want to talk about, and gives the attenders an opportunity to participate in the presentation and contribute to the knowledge construction arising from the activity. I have a piece ready to build the program on, I will use it for the blog pages. What I need to do now is get the paper sorted out, so I have a good paper to present.
I have a plan
May 2, 2008I’m going to make a drawing/painting using Fibonacci number sequences to create spirals on a large sheet of tyvek. As I work with those proportions and numbers, I’m going to construct the content of the presentation, the paper on dispelling the notion of tool. The construction of the piece will also be a construction of the content, so that there is this relationship between the formation of the content of the presentation, and the formation of the visual piece that will illuminate the presentation. I do believe I am integrating Varela’s theory into the process of preparing the presentation. This should be fun. And I won’t be typing. Added bonus.
